Ministry of Transmigration Prepares 7.8 Hectares for 'Sekolah Rakyat' in North Kalimantan to Boost Border Human Resources
The Ministry of Transmigration has prepared a 7.8-hectare plot of land for the construction of a Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) in Ardi Mulyo Village, North Kalimantan. The land, which holds a transmigration management right (HPL) status, will be used to expand access to education for communities in transmigration areas and border regions.
Minister of Transmigration M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara conveyed the approval in principle for the land use during a meeting with North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang at the ministry’s office in Jakarta. Minister Iftitah stated that the school’s development is not only intended to improve educational access but also serves as a long-term investment to create quality human resources while simultaneously driving economic growth in transmigration areas.
“In principle, we will certainly support the government’s objectives, especially if the transmigration HPL is used for a centre of economic activity. A school is also part of a centre of economic activity,” Minister Iftitah said. He added that the presence of a school would trigger the growth of new economic activities in the surrounding area, ranging from the development of community businesses to increased demand for services and trade, as well as the creation of job opportunities.
The land utilisation between government institutions will be implemented through a Right of Use (Hak Pakai) scheme. The Ministry of Transmigration will coordinate with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency to ensure the administrative process complies with regulations and maintains proper state asset governance.
North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang expressed his appreciation for the ministry’s support, noting that the educational facility is crucial for improving human resource quality, particularly in transmigration areas and the border region with Malaysia. “To improve the human resources of North Kalimantan, which is only 13 years old as a province. It is a very young age, and coincidentally we are also still classified as a frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged region. We are on the border. This border is Indonesia’s showcase, Mr. Minister,” Zainal said. The meeting also discussed the acceleration of infrastructure development in transmigration areas, particularly in remote regions like Krayan.
