Ministry of Transmigration Deploys 1,476 Academics to 53 Transmigration Areas
They are being equipped to understand field conditions, because the economic, social and political conditions of each area are determined by the social structure of the local community.
Bogor (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Transmigration (Kementrans) has deployed 1,476 academics to 53 transmigration areas across Indonesia through the 2026 Patriot Expedition Team (TEP) to strengthen research- and innovation-based development.
Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi, speaking at the Joint Orientation of the 2026 Patriot Expedition Team in Bogor, West Java, on Sunday, said this year’s programme is the second batch, following a similar programme held in 2025 involving around 2,000 participants.
“This year we are placing them in 53 transmigration areas with a total of 1,476 people. The aim is to follow up on research from the 2025 Patriot Expedition Team, and then to take practical action to develop flagship programmes in the transmigration areas,” he said.
He explained that the TEP 2026 participants comprise 39 professors, 10 postdoctoral researchers, 158 PhD holders, 49 master’s degree holders, 214 applied master’s students, and 937 bachelor’s degree graduates from various universities across Indonesia.
According to Viva Yoga, all participants are being briefed on the economic, social, cultural and political conditions of each transmigration area so they can adapt to local communities and build synergy with regional governments and local stakeholders.

He said the Patriot Expedition Team is part of the transmigration development programme, which aims to improve community welfare through the application of science and innovation in transmigration villages.
Viva Yoga expressed hope that the participants can produce objective data reflecting actual field conditions as the basis for formulating policy recommendations for the development of transmigration areas.
“All development processes must be directed, sustainable, and measurable with targets and needs. The Patriot Expedition Team is expected to provide policy recommendations for subsequent development programmes in transmigration areas,” he said.
