Ministry of Trade: Supply Surplus Causes Cocoa Bean Prices to Fall
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) states that the reference price (HR) for cocoa beans in April 2026 has declined due to a supply surplus not matched by increased demand. The HR for cocoa beans for the April 2026 period is set at 3,190.63 US dollars per MT, down 856.82 US dollars or 21.17 percent from March 2026. This impacts the Export Benchmark Price (HPE) for cocoa beans in April 2026, which falls to 2,886 US dollars per MT, a decrease of 836 US dollars or 22.46 percent from March 2026. “The decline in HR and HPE for cocoa beans is influenced by increased supply alongside improved production in major producing countries, not matched by increased demand,” said Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade, Tommy Andana, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. The export duty (BK) for Cocoa Beans for the period 1-30 April 2026 refers to “Column Number 3 of Appendix Letter B of PMK Number 38 of 2024 jo. PMK Number 68 of 2025”, at 5 percent. Meanwhile, the export levy (PE) for Cocoa Beans for the period 1-30 April 2026 refers to “Appendix Letter C of PMK Number 69 of 2025 jo. PMK Number 9 of 2026”, at 5 percent. For other commodities, the HPE for leather products in April 2026 remains unchanged from March 2026. Meanwhile, the commodity of pine resin for April 2026 is set at 916 US dollars per MT, up 13 US dollars or 1.44 percent from the March 2026 period. On the other hand, the HPE for wood products has increased for several types, namely veneer from natural forests and plantation forests, wooden sheets for packing boxes, and processed wood with a cross-sectional area of 1,000-4,000 mm² from meranti, mixed forest, and other assortments such as ebony, and from pine and gmelina forests, acacia, sengon, rubber, balsa, eucalyptus, and others. Meanwhile, the HPE has fallen for processed wood with a cross-sectional area of 1,000-4,000 mm² from merbau types and other assortments such as teak. Furthermore, there is no change in HPE for wood in chips or particles, chipwood, and processed wood with a cross-sectional area of 1,000-4,000 mm² from plantation forest types such as sungkai, and special processed wood of merbau type with a cross-sectional area of 4,000-10,000 mm² for the April 2026 period.
