Ministry of Tourism Urges Tourist Destinations to Strengthen Safety Measures Ahead of School Holidays
The Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) has requested that managers of tourist destinations strengthen aspects of safety, security, and comfort ahead of the school holiday period, which is expected to increase visitor numbers across various regions.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa stated that destination readiness is a crucial factor in ensuring tourists can holiday safely during the peak season. This was conveyed during an inspection of the Waterbom Bali tourist attraction ahead of the school holidays.
“This visit is our step to directly observe the readiness of tourist destinations, particularly in Bali, in facing the school holiday momentum,” said Ni Luh Puspa in a statement on Saturday (6/6/2026).
According to Puspa, the increase in tourist mobility must be balanced with the implementation of adequate safety standards. Consequently, destination managers are urged to ensure that all facilities, supporting infrastructure, and risk mitigation systems are functioning properly before receiving the surge in visitors.
She emphasised that the school holidays represent not only an opportunity to increase tourist arrivals but also a momentum to demonstrate the quality of tourism management in Indonesia.
“We hope all tourism stakeholders can continue to collaborate to provide safe, comfortable, and high-quality destinations so that tourists can enjoy their holidays with peace of mind,” said Puspa.
Destination readiness encompasses various aspects, ranging from the condition of infrastructure and facilities, visitor management, and the implementation of safety standards to staff readiness and the management of environmental cleanliness within tourist areas.
To strengthen the culture of tourism safety, the Ministry of Tourism is also conducting training and certification programmes for tourism industry players, particularly for high-risk activities such as mountain trekking, water tourism, rafting, and snorkelling.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Tourism has developed the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI) to serve as a reference for tourist services, including safety and security aspects during travel.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Waterbom Bali, Sayan Gulino, stated that the park has undertaken various preparations for the school holiday period through routine inspections of facilities and supporting infrastructure.
“We have a quality control department that performs regular inspections. With 33 years of experience, we are ready to face the increase in tourist visits,” said Sayan.
According to Sayan, managing visitor capacity is also a vital part of maintaining tourist safety and comfort. Therefore, the number of visitors will be adjusted according to the carrying capacity of the available facilities.
“With good capacity management, visitors will not need to queue for too long, facilities will be well-maintained, and the tourist experience can be more comfortable and safe,” he added.
