Ministry of Tourism to Build Competitive Halal Ecosystem Through IIE 2026
The Ministry of Tourism is working to strengthen Muslim-friendly tourism whilst expanding collaboration in building a competitive and sustainable global halal ecosystem through the International Islamic Expo (IIE) 2026. Staf Ahli Menteri Bidang Transformasi Digital dan Inovasi Pariwisata at the Ministry of Tourism, Masruroh, stated that this is a momentum to strengthen partnerships, exchange ideas, and open new collaboration opportunities in Muslim-friendly tourism and the global halal ecosystem. The international exhibition and business forum, taking place on 26–28 June 2026 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), will bring together tourism industry players, umrah and hajj travel organisers, associations, investors, buyers, and government representatives from various countries. The event serves as a strategic space to strengthen networks, promote destinations, and open investment and business cooperation opportunities in the Muslim-friendly tourism sector. With its cultural wealth, natural beauty, culinary diversity, and the hospitality of its people, Indonesia possesses strong capital to become a leading destination in the global Muslim-friendly tourism market. She added that international recognition through the Global Muslim Travel Index 2026, which placed Indonesia as the world’s second-ranked Muslim-friendly tourist destination, reflects the country’s commitment to delivering quality tourism. This tourism not only provides the best experience for travellers but also creates sustainable economic, social, cultural, and environmental benefits for the community. This achievement is the result of joint efforts by the government, industry players, the community, and international partners in enhancing the quality and competitiveness of Indonesia’s tourism ecosystem. The award serves as motivation to continue innovating, improving service quality, and strengthening collaboration with partners worldwide. Masruroh explained that the International Islamic Expo also holds strategic significance in driving economic growth. Beyond connecting business players and investors, the forum expands business networks and creates economic impacts felt across various sectors, from hospitality, restaurants, and transportation to UMKM and the creative industry. Forums like this strengthen international partnerships that form the foundation for building more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable tourism. The Ministry of Tourism hopes the 2026 International Islamic Expo will surpass the achievements of the previous year. The 2025 event featured over 120 exhibitors from 15 countries, attracted 3,877 buyers and 22,804 visitors, and generated transactions worth Rp105 billion.
