Ministry of Tourism Targets 19.1 Million Foreign Tourist Arrivals in 2027

Jakarta - The Ministry of Tourism is targeting 19.1 million foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia by 2027. “We are committed to continuously optimising all available resources so that tourism can provide a greater contribution to the national economy, job creation, foreign exchange earnings, and public welfare,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardahana during a working meeting with Commission VII of the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday. This figure is an increase from the government’s 2026 target of 16 to 17.6 million foreign tourist visits. According to Widiyanti, the government will focus on developing higher quality and sustainable tourism to encourage a greater contribution from the sector to the national economy. Priority programmes next year will concentrate on quality and sustainable tourism development, with key activities including the completion of 10 priority destinations and the development of 3 regenerative destinations. To support this target, the Ministry of Tourism has formulated several interventions, including improving human resource quality, tourism marketing, developing quality attractions and events, strengthening sustainable tourism, destination development, and inclusive industry and supply chain development. Tourism is also mandated to increase its contribution by 2027. This is reflected in the increase of all Key Performance Indicators for the Ministry of Tourism compared to 2026. The established targets include foreign tourist arrivals of 17.6–19.1 million visits, an increase of approximately 8.5–10 percent. Average Spending per Arrival is targeted to reach 1,447–1,497 US dollars, an increase of around 5.5–6.6 percent. The increase in foreign tourist activity is expected to contribute to tourism foreign exchange earnings of 25.5–28.6 billion US dollars, or growth of approximately 16 percent compared to the previous year. The tourism sector’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product is targeted to reach 4.7–4.8 percent, an increase of about 0.4 percentage points. Meanwhile, tourism investment next year is targeted at Rp71 trillion, an increase of approximately 11.8 percent compared to the previous year. Based on a letter from the Minister of Finance, the Ministry of Tourism received a budget allocation of Rp1.01 trillion to support the achievement of Key Performance Indicators and the resolution of various strategic issues in the tourism sector. “Despite budget limitations, the Ministry of Tourism is committed to ensuring that every rupiah of the budget has an optimal impact on tourism sector development,” she said.
