The Eid al-Fitr holiday period remains a popular time for Indonesians to visit various tourist destinations. However, illegal levies and extortion at tourism sites continue to be a concern.

The Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri, has addressed this issue, explaining that the Ministry of Tourism has coordinated with police to tackle the problem.

“During this coordination meeting, we have escalated this to the police, and the National Police will monitor the situation to reduce unwanted incidents,” she stated during a visit to inspect Eid holiday preparations in the Blok M area of South Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Furthermore, the Minister revealed that the Ministry has established complaint posts and support channels. Citizens can report extortion issues through multiple channels, including Halo Wonderful, WhatsApp, Instagram Direct Messages, and email.

“There are also complaint posts where people can report issues. Through Halo Wonderful, there are complaint services available via WhatsApp, Instagram DM, and email, and we will distribute the contact numbers,” she explained.

During the announcement, Minister Widiyanti also provided travel tips for a comfortable, safe and peaceful experience during the 2026 Eid holiday season, emphasising that family safety must be the top priority when travelling.

“The tips are: prioritise family safety, check the weather for rain, monitor traffic conditions, and always prepare in advance. Do not litter and help preserve destinations. Also maintain health awareness and visit health centres if needed,” she stated.

The Minister also noted that tourists seeking information about destinations they wish to visit during the Eid holiday period can access the Ministry’s official website, Indonesia.travel. The website contains information about destinations across various regions in Indonesia and interesting events happening during the time of your visit.

“The Ministry also has a website, Indonesia.travel, with information about destinations throughout Indonesia, upcoming events, and attractions suited to tourists’ preferences,” she concluded.
