Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs targets the completion of the permanent People’s School building in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, by July 2026, allowing it to be immediately utilised for teaching and learning activities. Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated in Jakarta on Friday that the permanent building of the Deli Serdang People’s School utilises a 7.06-hectare plot of land and is ready to accommodate 1,000 students. Thousands of students will later utilise facilities besides dormitories, classrooms, dining halls, worship buildings, and other amenities such as a football field at the People’s School currently under construction by the Ministry of Public Works. “I am truly grateful that the construction process is progressing smoothly, and this permanent building will accommodate more than 1,000 primary, secondary, and high school students,” said Social Affairs Minister Saifullah, who at the same time inspected the construction site in Tandam Hulu Satu, Hamparan Perak, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. On that occasion, he also conveyed that there are 100 permanent People’s School buildings scattered across several regions currently under construction. “That means today, more than 50,000 workers are collaborating to build permanent People’s School buildings throughout Indonesia,” he revealed. Meanwhile, the Head of the North Sumatra Strategic Infrastructure Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Public Works, Kurniawan, added that there are five permanent People’s School buildings under construction in various regions of North Sumatra, such as Medan City, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, South Tapanuli, and Padang Sidempuan. “Overall progress is good. We target 20 July 2026 in line with the Minister of Public Works’ instructions, hopefully it can already be used,” he said. This programme is designed as an integrated poverty alleviation model that combines various flagship government programmes such as Free Health Check (CKG), Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), PBI-JK health insurance, Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives, as well as the 3 Million Houses Programme for beneficiary students’ families.
