This year, the target for new students to be admitted during the new student intake starting in July 2026 is an allocation of more than 32,000 students. Thus, this year there will be more than 46,000 students in People’s Schools,” said Gus Ipul during a press conference at the Bakom RI office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

Gus Ipul targets People’s Schools to have 100,000 students by 2027. He targets People’s Schools to have 500,000 students by 2030.

“Next year (2027), God willing, there will already be 100,000 students, the following year we will allocate more than 200,000 in 2028, by 2029 it will be nearly 400,000, and God willing, by 2030 it will reach 500,000 students,” he stated.

“This is our target going forward in accordance with the President’s instructions, where every district and city should at least have one permanent People’s School building that can accommodate more than 1,000 primary, junior high, and senior high school students,” Gus Ipul added.

Furthermore, Gus Ipul mentioned that 93 People’s School sites are currently under construction. Of these, 69 are targeted to be completed by July 2026.

“The remaining 24 will be partially completed but can be utilised for the learning process,” he said.

On the same occasion, Gus Ipul also revealed challenges in the construction of People’s Schools at two sites, namely in Wonosobo and Temanggung, Central Java. Gus Ipul stated that construction in Wonosobo is already underway.

“In Wonosobo, it can be built partially, but some parts are still problematic, which God willing, in the near future I will receive information that it can be resolved, but the construction has already started in Wonosobo,” he said.

Gus Ipul stated that construction in Temanggung has not yet begun due to issues with residents. He hopes the problem can be resolved.

“Specifically in Temanggung, it hasn’t started at all because there are still issues with the local residents. Of course, we will wait for the Regent to see how it can be deliberated well with the residents who happen to be on land that has been declared clear and clean,” he added.
