Makassar (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has requested the willingness of the Makassar City Government to once again become a pilot project in the “Declaration of Quality Social Homes” programme, following appreciation for its execution of the slum settlement relocation programme through the construction of Rumah Nayla homes.

This was conveyed during Makassar Mayor Munafri Arifuddin’s working visit to Jakarta, with a strategic agenda to strengthen synergy in handling social issues and alleviating poverty, where he met directly with Indonesian Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta on Monday.

“Collaboration is the key. With the support of Kemensos and all stakeholders, we are optimistic that various social problems in Makassar can be addressed in a more structured, measurable, and directly impactful manner for the community,” said Munafri in his statement in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

Munafri Arifuddin welcomed the various supports and trusts given by the central government.

He reaffirmed the Makassar City Government’s commitment to continue delivering policies that favour vulnerable communities and to strengthen the social protection ecosystem in the city.

In that meeting, the Social Affairs Minister also appreciated the success of the collaboration between Kemensos, the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, and the Makassar City Government, particularly in the Rumah Nayla construction programme.

Due to these achievements, Kemensos has requested that Makassar City once again become a pilot for the “Declaration of Quality Social Homes” programme, which is an initiative to improve the quality of social services.

This programme also aims to curb the potential for physical and sexual violence against children, particularly in the environment of Child Social Welfare Institutions (LKSA), daycare centres, and educational institutions.

According to the Minister, the concrete steps taken by the Makassar City Government are deemed not only on target but also to have a direct impact on improving community welfare.

He assessed that the collaborative approach built between the central, provincial, and local governments has become a key factor in accelerating the comprehensive resolution of social issues.

For him, the efforts undertaken by the Makassar Mayor and his team demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering responsive policies that favour vulnerable communities.

“This serves as a good example of how local governments can move quickly and deliver tangible impacts,” he stated.
