Ministry of Social Affairs Appreciates Sumenep's Initiative to Allocate Land for Sekolah Rakyat
The Ministry of Social Affairs has praised the Sumenep Regency Government in East Java for preparing 7.1 hectares of land for the construction of a permanent Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) located in Gunggung Village, Batuan District.
According to a statement received in Jakarta on Monday, Special Staff to the Minister of Social Affairs Ishaq Zubaedi Raqib expressed appreciation for the seriousness of Sumenep Regent Dr. H. Achmad Fauzi Wongsojudo in supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programme to provide free education access and poverty alleviation.
“Sumenep has made the effort to prepare land that was originally intended for a sports centre and converted it for a People’s School. This is the Regent’s good intention to be actively involved in ensuring the President’s priority programme. The Sumenep Regent has fought with all his might; hopefully this will become his legacy, having gone all out to fight for the People’s School,” said Ishaq.
This was conveyed after inspecting the location together with Ministerial Expert Ahmad Rifai, Head of Spatial Planning at the Sumenep Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency Hariyanto Effendi, and Head of Social Protection and Security at the Sumenep Social Service, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Agency R Erwien Hendra Laksmono in Sumenep on Saturday (8/8).
“The Secretariat will accelerate coordination between the Public Works Agency, the Education Agency, the Social Service, the Agriculture Agency and the Family Hope Programme coordinator. So the consolidation will be smooth and complete, and the consolidation of requirements can be done quickly,” he said.
Head of Social Protection and Security at the Sumenep Social Service, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Agency R Erwien Hendra Laksmono explained on the same occasion that the land belongs to the regional government and was originally designated for a sports centre in Gunggung Village, Batuan District, directly opposite Wiraraja University.
“The land status is owned by the Regency Government with an area of 7.1 hectares,” said Erwin.
“The proposal will be sent immediately. The Head of the Social Service and Public Works will go to Jakarta soon,” he explained, hoping that construction could begin this year.
Field observations showed that the land prepared for the permanent People’s School is located not far from the national road access, namely Jalan Trunojoyo. The land is flat and vehicle access to the location via a village road is already available. The road will be raised and widened to ensure affordable access.
The permanent People’s School is planned to be used to facilitate students who have been studying at the Integrated People’s School (SRT) 49 Sumenep, located in the SKB Building in Batuan District.
SRT 49 has been operating since 2025, with 76 students at primary and junior secondary levels. As it is still in its pilot phase and is housed in the SKB building with very limited capacity.
