The agreement was conveyed by Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, following a meeting with Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait and his team at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026).

Gus Ipul explained that the People’s School serves as a miniature model for poverty eradication, as outlined in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 8 of 2025.

“Where the children attend school, their parents are empowered and supported through other strategic presidential programmes. One of these is assistance for families or parents of People’s School students with the construction or renovation of uninhabitable homes to make them more livable, supported by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas,” said Gus Ipul in his statement on Monday (11/5/2026).

“So this is specifically for the families of People’s School students,” he added.

Under this programme, the Ministry of Social Affairs has proposed renovating 10,000 homes owned by parents of People’s School students this year. Of this number, 5,000 homes have been confirmed as eligible.

Gus Ipul noted that the homes that have passed verification have undergone field checks.

“Those that are now clear and clean (ownership status) number 5,000. So field ground checks have been conducted, and they have been confirmed to meet the requirements. Because certain conditions must be fulfilled, such as primarily ownership and land ownership,” he revealed.

Meanwhile, the rest are still in the verification and validation process, one of the requirements being land ownership or personal ownership.

“The others will follow; we will verify as soon as possible. We will carry out verification and validation promptly by our facilitators along with officials from the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, as soon as possible, because the data is already available,” he continued.

Gus Ipul added that not all homes can be renovated immediately, especially those with unclear ownership status such as rented or occupied homes.

“We will find solutions for those that do not yet meet the requirements. We will strive to find solutions. Perhaps we will collaborate with many parties,” he stated.

He also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas for fully supporting the programme.

“I thank Mr Ara (Maruarar Sirait) for allocating a substantial portion of the programme for the families or parents of People’s School students,” he said.

Meanwhile, Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait affirmed that his ministry is ready to fully support the renovation programme. In 2025, PKP had also renovated 1,000 homes of parents of students.

He added that this year, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas will renovate the homes of students’ parents in line with the proposal from the Ministry of Social Affairs, namely 10,000 homes. The renovations will utilise the budget from the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas.

“So we have decided to allocate the amount requested by the Ministry of Social Affairs, 10,000 (homes), we agree and we support (renovating) 10,000 (homes). And we are determined that this programme must be very successful,” continued Maruarar Sirait.

He also requested that the Ministry of Social Affairs promptly submit the data on the homes to be renovated so that the programme can proceed quickly.

“The data should enter no later than 1 June (2026), if possible. Please. So that we can move quickly,” he explained.

The meeting was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas, including Secretary General of the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas Didyk Choiroel, Director General of Settlement Areas Fitrah Nur, Director General of Urban Housing Sri Haryati, up to Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs Robben Rico and Director General of Social Assistance Mira Riyati Kurniasih.
