Ministry of Social Affairs acts on President's directive for NTT earthquake victims

Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf said the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is continuing to provide support to communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), as a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive.

“For the past two days, the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and his delegation, led by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, have been on the ground providing the necessary support,” said Saifullah, quoted from a written statement on Monday.

The figure familiarly known as Gus Ipul said the ministry’s support includes distributing logistical aid, providing tents, and operating public kitchens to meet the needs of affected communities.

“Until now, Tagana (disaster preparedness cadets) along with all other elements, under the coordination of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), together with the military and police, are all working together,” he said.

On Monday, Agus Jabo attended the 81st Independence Day commemoration ceremony in Manggarai Regency together with Manggarai Regent Herybertus Geradus Laju Nabit and Deputy Regent Fabianus Abu.

Agus Jabo has been in NTT since Saturday (15/8) along with a number of ministry and agency officials tasked with ensuring the handling of the emergency situation and meeting the needs of affected communities.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has also operated public kitchens, distributed food and emergency logistics assistance, and increased personnel numbers to support services for earthquake-affected communities.

The response is being carried out together with other government elements under the coordination of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and involves the military and police.
