The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has determined that the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 Hijri will fall on Monday, May 18th, 2026. Consequently, Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026.

This decision was made during an isbat (confirmation) session held on Sunday afternoon, May 17th, 2026, which corresponds to the 29th of Zulkaidah 1447 Hijri.

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar stated that this determination is based on the results of new moon observations conducted at 88 strategic locations throughout Indonesia. Nasaruddin explained that this decision was made by integrating hisab (astronomical calculations) data and the results of rukyatul hilal (new moon sighting).

The results indicate that the position of the new moon meets the criteria set by the Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS), which serves as the primary reference for determining the beginning of Hijri months in Southeast Asia.

β€œIt has been agreed that the date of 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri will fall on Monday, May 18th, 2026, and therefore Eid al-Adha, which falls on the 10th of Zulhijah 1447 Hijri, will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026,” said Nasaruddin at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Sunday, May 17th, 2026.

He explained that the data on the position of the new moon throughout Indonesia, based on hisab calculations for today, shows that the altitude of the new moon above the horizon ranges from 3 degrees 17 minutes 33 seconds to 6 degrees 56 minutes 58 seconds. Meanwhile, the angle of elongation ranges from 8 degrees 54 minutes 49 seconds to 10 degrees 37 minutes 7 seconds.

The isbat session involved various elements, including officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Hisab Rukyat Team of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, ambassadors from friendly countries, Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), various Islamic organizations such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), academics, experts in astronomy, and leaders of Islamic boarding schools.
