Ministry of Religious Affairs Reveals Police Officer Suspected of Sexual Violence No Longer a Caretaker at Islamic Boarding School

The Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) for Central Java has revealed that Bripka E, a member of the Wonogiri Police who is a suspect in a sexual violence case, is no longer serving as a caretaker at the Manjung Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes). Bripka E was the founder of the boarding school.

“The individual concerned is no longer an administrator of the Manjung Islamic Boarding School, and he is not a kiai as he was the founder of the school. I have a statement letter confirming that he is no longer a caretaker,” said Moch Fatkhuronji, Head of the Diniyah Education and Islamic Boarding School Division at the Central Java Kemenag Regional Office, when asked about the case on Wednesday (22/7/2026).

Fatkhuronji added that Bripka E has not been a caretaker since 1 January 2026. “So the current caretaker is named Muhammad Yamin,” he stated.

He explained that the Manjung Islamic Boarding School has held an operational permit since 21 November 2021. The school currently has 119 students. However, since the alleged sexual violence case involving Bripka E came to light, the students have been picked up by their parents or guardians.

“So since yesterday, 20 July (2026), the school has been vacated. All students have been sent home or taken home by their parents,” Fatkhuronji said.

According to Fatkhuronji, the students will continue their learning activities online. As for whether the Manjung Islamic Boarding School will continue its operations, he stated that the Ministry of Religious Affairs will conduct a review and assessment first.

“There will be a more in-depth study regarding the operational permit, whether it will be revoked or reviewed to find reasoning that can strengthen the decision to either maintain or revoke the permit,” he said.
