JAKARTA – The Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Muhammad Syafii, announced that the ministry has prepared 6,859 mosques throughout Indonesia to provide services for homebound travellers during Eid celebrations in 1447 Hijriah (2026).

“The Ministry of Religious Affairs has established service provisions for homebound travellers at 6,859 mosques distributed across Indonesia,” Syafii stated during the Mosque Expedition launch event at the ministry’s headquarters on Thursday, 11 March 2026.

Syafii emphasised that mosques serve not merely as places of worship, but also as service points for travellers seeking rest stops during their journey.

The mosques designated as stopover points will provide various basic facilities for travellers. These include 24-hour access to mosques and prayer halls, mosque security, parking areas, healthcare service facilities, toilets, and clean water availability.

Additionally, mosques will offer supplementary facilities to assist travellers during their rest periods.

“Mosques will provide phone and device charging stations, adequate rest areas, information centres, drinking water, and light food items,” he added.

The Mosque Expedition Indonesia radio broadcast will run from eight days before to eight days after Eid. Meanwhile, mosque services for travellers will be available from seven days before to seven days after Eid al-Fitr.
