Ministry of Religious Affairs Declares Madrasahs Must Be Safe Havens Free from All Violence

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has urged that madrasahs become safe spaces for students, free from all forms of violence. Director General of Islamic Education, Amien Suyitno, stated that the new academic year’s orientation activities must ensure a comfortable and secure environment. “Madrasahs must be safe and comfortable places, not only in the classroom but also in the surrounding environment. We want to ensure the entire madrasah ecosystem is inclusive and free from physical and psychological violence,” Amien said during the ‘Matamuda’ event at MAN 19 Jakarta on Thursday (16/5).

Amien observed that the student orientation period across various madrasahs was proceeding smoothly and enthusiastically. Head of the DKI Jakarta Ministry of Religious Affairs Regional Office, Adib, added that madrasah students are demonstrating high competitiveness, with many achieving top scores in the 2026 Academic Competency Test (TKA) and gaining admission to prestigious state universities like ITB, UI, and UGM through the national selection pathway. “This proves that madrasahs provide a strong foundation in education, skill, and noble character,” Adib remarked.

To support a safe learning atmosphere, Director of Madrasah Curriculum, Sarana, Institutional and Student Affairs, Nyanyu Khodijah, emphasized the ‘Love-Based Curriculum’ (KBC). She explained that KBC aims to create a healthy, enjoyable, and secure space, focusing on students’ mental and spiritual well-being. The program’s success is measured by three indicators: an environmentally friendly madrasah, a child-friendly madrasah free from bullying, and the overall mental and spiritual health of the students.
