Ministry of Religious Affairs Concerned by UIN Student Stabbing Case, Calls for Further Guidance

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has expressed concern over the stabbing of a female student by her fellow student at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. ‘We are very concerned by what happened and legally the actions towards the perpetrator have been taken in accordance with the law,’ said Suyitno, Director General of Islamic Education at Kemenag, at the ministry’s office in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He hopes that similar incidents will not recur in any educational environment, not only at UIN. ‘We hope this is the first and last incident. This is something we must address with further guidance,’ he added. ‘Yes, in accordance with the rules in force at UIN, they surely know how to act. But there are rules that also look at humanity,’ he added. An incident of stabbing occurred in the environment of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim (Suska) Riau. The perpetrator, identified as Rehan Mujafar (21), attacked the victim, Farradhila Ayu Pramesti (23), with an axe. Both are active students in the Faculty of Law at the campus. The head of Bina Widya Police Sector, Chief Commissioner (Kompol) Nusirwan, revealed that the perpetrator had planned the act. Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bina Widya Police Sector have now named Rehan Mujafar as a suspect. He is charged under Article 469 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of 12 years’ imprisonment.
