Ministry of Religion to Hold Isbat Session for 1 Syawal 1447 AH on 19 March 2026
The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) will hold an isbat (determination) session for 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah on 19 March 2026, coinciding with 29 Ramadan 1447 AH. The session will take place at the H.M. Rasjidi Auditorium of the Ministry of Religion’s office in Jakarta.
The Director General of Islamic Community Guidance at Kemenag, Abu Rokhmad, stated that preparations for the isbat session of 1 Syawal 1447 AH have been conducted in accordance with applicable procedures, covering both substantive aspects and technical support.
“The implementation of the session is based on verified calculation (hisab) and hilal sighting (rukyat) results, and is carried out through a mechanism that is open to the public,” Abu said in Jakarta on Sunday (1 March).
He noted that the isbat session will involve various stakeholders, including astronomy experts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), planetariums, observatories, representatives of Islamic civil society organisations, and other relevant institutions.
“Because it involves broad representation, the isbat session’s decision has strong religious legitimacy,” he affirmed.
Meanwhile, the Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Islamic Law Development at Kemenag, Arsad Hidayat, added that technical preparations are being continuously refined, including coordination of hilal sighting monitoring at various points across Indonesia.
“From a technical perspective, we have prepared support for the session’s facilities and infrastructure, a hilal sighting reporting system, and coordination with hilal monitoring points throughout Indonesia. Our hope is that the session process can run orderly, accurately, and informatively for the public,” he explained.
The isbat session will begin with a seminar on the hilal position, followed by verification of hilal sighting reports from various regions, then the implementation of the isbat session and official announcement of the determination of 1 Syawal 1447 AH by the Minister of Religion.
