The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has ensured the readiness of national road infrastructure and toll roads, while preparing 24-hour field services to maintain the smooth and safe travel of the public during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus and return traffic.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works, Wida Nurfaida, stated that the government has prepared various anticipatory measures to ensure the exodus proceeds smoothly. Currently, the length of national roads reaches 47,603 kilometres with a stability rate of around 93 per cent.

“To support the smooth flow of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus and return, the Ministry of Public Works ensures that all national roads are in stable condition,” said Wida in her statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Ministry of Public Works is also preparing a full alert system in the field through posts and emergency response teams operating 24 hours a day. A total of 1,461 Disaster Relief Units (DRU) are on standby, complete with equipment and personnel for handling infrastructure emergencies.

“We are also providing posts and emergency response teams that are on alert 24 hours a day. These teams are tasked with identifying landslide-prone locations, floods, or congestion points, while ensuring a rapid response if disruptions occur in the field,” said Wida.

To maintain road service quality, the Ministry of Public Works has carried out various preservation works since the beginning of the year, including resurfacing pavements, pothole patching, bridge repairs, and drainage normalisation. To date, more than 102,000 pothole points on the national road network have been addressed, and handling will continue to be carried out quickly if new damage appears during the exodus period.

Construction Work Temporarily Halted

To keep road capacity optimal, the Ministry of Public Works ensures that construction work on road bodies is temporarily halted from H-10 to H+10 of Eid, namely 11 March to 1 April 2026. This policy is exempt for emergency handling such as repairs to damage that could endanger road users.

“All construction work on road bodies will be temporarily halted so as not to disrupt the smooth flow of the exodus,” said Wida.

On the toll road network, there are currently 76 operational toll sections spanning 3,115 kilometres, equipped with 136 rest areas and 581 toll gates to serve the needs of travellers. All bridges on the national road network are also ensured to be in functional condition, with a total of 19,337 non-toll bridges spanning around 565,000 metres.
