Ministry of Public Works on 24-hour alert to ensure smooth Eid travel
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has ensured the readiness of national road infrastructure and toll roads, while preparing field services to operate 24 hours a day to maintain the smooth and safe travel of the public.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works, Wida Nurfaida, stated that the government has prepared various anticipatory measures to ensure the Eid exodus and return flows proceed smoothly.
βTo support the smooth flow of the Eid exodus and return in 2026, the Ministry of Public Works ensures that all national roads are in stable condition. Currently, the length of national roads reaches 47,603 km with a stability rate of around 93 percent,β said Wida in her statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
In addition, the Ministry of Public Works has prepared a full alert system in the field through posts and emergency response teams operating 24 hours a day, including deploying 1,461 Disaster Relief Units (DRU) complete with equipment and personnel for infrastructure emergency handling.
To maintain road service quality, the Ministry of Public Works has carried out various preservation works since the beginning of the year, including pavement overlays, pothole patching, bridge repairs, and drainage normalisation.
To date, more than 102,000 pothole points on the national road network have been addressed, and handling will continue to be carried out quickly if new damage arises during the exodus period.
With these steps, the Ministry of Public Works ensures that every potential disruption on the roads can be addressed immediately so as not to hinder the smooth travel of the public during the peak exodus flow.
