The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is continuing its efforts to ensure road access becomes functional as quickly as possible. Roads and bridges serve as the vital arteries for community movement and logistics distribution.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public and Public Works (PU) has finalised the permanent handling of the Lumut Bridge in Central Aceh Regency, Aceh Province.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the infrastructure management of bridges in disaster-affected areas is a crucial part of ensuring community connectivity remains maintained. According to him, open access is required so that community mobility, logistics distribution, and post-disaster recovery processes can proceed effectively.

“The Ministry of PU continues to strive to ensure road access becomes functional as soon as possible. Roads and bridges are the lifeblood of community movement and logistics distribution,” said Dody in Jakarta on Thursday.

As of 31 August 2026, the bridge, located on the Uwaq-Border of Central Aceh/Gayo Lues route, has reached 100 per cent completion after being impacted by a disaster late last year.

The completion of the permanent handling of Lumut Bridge was carried out according to the established target of 31 August 2026. The work was executed by the Aceh National Road Implementation Office (BPJN).

The steel truss bridge, measuring 35 metres in length and 7 metres in width, holds a strategic position as it is the lifeline for citizen mobility, logistics distribution, and the economic pulse of the Central Aceh community.

The bridge restoration was conducted through several technical works, including raising the bridge, river normalisation, and the construction of river training to enhance the safety and reliability of the infrastructure against river flow conditions.

One of the primary tasks was performed using the jacking method, which involved raising the bridge structure by 1.5 metres using hydraulic jack technology.

This method was implemented to increase the position of the bridge structure while simultaneously supporting its resilience against the surrounding environmental conditions.

In addition to the structural elevation, the work also included the rehabilitation of railings and the repainting of the steel truss. With the completion of all these tasks, the Lumut Bridge has now been permanently restored.

The completion of the Lumut Bridge repairs marks an important step in strengthening connectivity in Central Aceh.

This infrastructure is expected to continue supporting community movement, the smooth distribution of goods and logistics, and economic activities in the area connected via the Uwaq–Border of Central Aceh/Gayo Lues route.
