Ministry of Public Works Accelerates Two Prabowo Instructions: New Roads-People's Schools
The Ministry of Public Works is continuing to implement the accelerated development programme under Presidential Instruction (Inpres) 2025, through which President Prabowo Subianto is pushing for cross-sectoral construction to enhance national food security, education, and connectivity, to be completed by 2026.
The projects under this Inpres include accelerating irrigation networks, rehabilitating religious schools, constructing People’s Schools (SR), improving regional road infrastructure, and developing National Self-Sufficiency Zones for Food, Energy, and Water (KSPEAN). All these programmes are aimed at strengthening basic services for the public.
The first Inpres is Inpres Number 2 of 2025, on the Acceleration of Construction, Improvement, Rehabilitation, as well as Operation and Maintenance of Irrigation Networks to Support Food Self-Sufficiency, where the President targets this construction to reach 500,000 hectares (ha) by 2026.
“The target for handling the Irrigation Inpres (Inpres Number 2 of 2025) reaches 500,000 ha in 2026,” stated the Ministry of Public Works on its official Instagram @kementerianpu, quoted on Monday (30/3/2026).
Next, Inpres Number 7 of 2025, on the Acceleration of the Implementation of the Construction and Revitalisation Programme for Early Childhood Education Units, Basic Education, and Secondary Education, Construction and Management of Elite Garuda Upper Secondary Schools, and Digitalisation of Learning.
Under this Inpres, the Ministry of Public Works targets the rehabilitation of religious schools to reach 1,000 new school units by 2026.
“The target for religious school rehabilitation reaches 1,000 units,” the Ministry of Public Works continued.
Meanwhile, Inpres Number 8 of 2025 on the Optimisation of Poverty Alleviation Implementation and the Eradication of Extreme Poverty; to fulfil this Inpres, the Ministry of Public Works targets the construction of 204 People’s School units by 2026.
Furthermore, to fulfil Inpres Number 11 of 2025 on the Acceleration of Improving Regional Road Connectivity to Support Food and Energy Self-Sufficiency, the Ministry of Public Works targets upgrading 2,191 km of roads, constructing 231 km of regional roads, and building bridges spanning 589 m.
Finally, in fulfilling Inpres Number 14 of 2025 on the Acceleration of Constructing National Self-Sufficiency Zones for Food, Energy, and Water, the Ministry of Public Works targets the construction of flood control systems covering 7,503 ha by 2026, out of an overall target of 10,000 ha; construction of swamp irrigation networks covering 7,483 ha by 2026 from an overall target of 10,000 ha; opening access roads spanning 138.5 km; and constructing aggregate foundation layers spanning 51.3 km.
“These steps are part of efforts to build more independent, connected, and sustainable regions,” stated the Ministry of Public Works.
