Ministry of Public Works Accelerates Land Acquisition for 89 People's Schools Phase III
Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo outlined the latest developments in the construction of People’s Schools (SR) Phase III, which is now entering the tender process at several locations.
The government aims to complete this phase by June 2027 at the latest for use in the new academic year starting July 2027.
Dody made the statement during a coordination meeting on People’s Schools with Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
He explained that Phase III construction is divided into three categories.
Seven locations under Phase IIIA have entered the tender process, while the 11 locations of Phase IIIB are still in the tender preparation stage.
Phase IIIC, covering 89 locations, still requires meeting readiness criteria, including resolving land status and other supporting documents.
According to the Democrat Party politician, completing Phase III construction is crucial so that students currently attending the pilot People’s Schools in the 2025/2026 academic year can move to permanent buildings by the new academic year in July 2027.
In addition to Phase III, the Ministry of Public Works is also accelerating the construction of 93 Phase II People’s Schools sites, targeting completion by June 2026.
As of 25 May 2026, the physical progress of Phase II construction reached 62.63%, with financial progress at 41.76%.
To speed up work, the ministry has formed a Rapid Construction Task Force for People’s Schools, increased workforce, and implemented a three-shift system on-site.
As of 25 May 2026, People’s Schools construction has absorbed 71,579 workers.
Additionally, the ministry is coordinating with Danantara and Himbara banks to assist contractors facing cash flow issues during project execution.
‘For service providers facing cash flow problems, we have coordinated with Danantara to receive assistance from Himbara banks. Regarding manpower, we will involve TNI Engineering Corps support, as done in SR projects in North Lombok, at sites with delayed progress to ensure targets are met,’ Dody said.
The meeting also covered strengthening digital learning infrastructure through collaboration between the Ministry of Public Works, Ministry of Social Affairs, and Komdigi, including internet connectivity and fibre optic infrastructure at Phase II People’s Schools sites.
‘The Ministry of Public Works has provided tremendous support for People’s Schools, particularly in providing facilities and infrastructure. Challenges on the ground are significant, but the Minister of Public Works is personally overseeing and accelerating efforts to ensure these facilities are ready for the new academic year,’ Saifullah Yusuf said.
