Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Records 3,000 Schools in Sumatra Signing Cooperation Agreements Post-Disaster
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has recorded that 3,084 schools affected by disasters in Sumatra have entered into Cooperation Agreements (PKS) to receive the 2026 fiscal year educational unit revitalisation programme, with a budget exceeding Rp2.9 trillion.
In a written statement in Jakarta on Monday, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, stated that regarding the rehabilitation and reconstruction of educational units post-disaster, the revitalisation will be implemented via self-management by 2,817 schools. Additionally, 267 schools that suffered heavy damage and require relocation will undergo reconstruction through cooperation with the Indonesian Army (TNI AD), with a budget reaching over Rp446 billion.
Of the total recipients of revitalisation assistance, 2,861 schools have received the first stage of funding (70 per cent), with total disbursements exceeding Rp1.9 trillion. Furthermore, the Ministry has ensured that educational operational support remains fulfilled through the distribution of School Operational Assistance (BOSP).
“In the second and third weeks of May 2026, we will complete disbursements to 223 educational units with assistance funds of Rp83.3 billion, and also distribute operational assistance during the emergency transition towards recovery with funds of Rp17 billion. All this assistance aims to support the continuity of educational services so that teaching and learning activities can proceed amidst the post-disaster recovery process,” said Mu’ti.
To date, BOSP has been distributed to more than 29,000 educational units in disaster-affected regencies, with a total value reaching Rp1.98 trillion. In its implementation, Kemendikdasmen is also providing flexibility regarding both disbursement requirements and budget usage to ensure they can be adjusted to the specific needs of each school.
Mu’ti added that Kemendikdasmen continues to strengthen coordination with local governments regarding the provision of land for 65 schools that require relocation due to the impact of the disasters. The Ministry is also currently in the process of verifying assistance for 6,055 teachers, with a budget of Rp36.3 billion.
“Currently, we are conducting psychosocial support training as well as monitoring the attendance of students and teachers, and the implementation of learning in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Mentoring on best practices and the application of emergency learning models is also being carried out for schools affected by disasters in these three regions to ensure the learning process continues optimally,” Mu’ti concluded.
