Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education provides school kits to students affected by Kemayoran fire
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has provided 100 school kit packages, including bags, red and white uniforms, and school supplies, along with trauma healing services to students surviving the fire disaster on Jalan Kemayoran Gempol, Central Jakarta.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, ensured that every student whose home was affected by the fire that occurred several days ago will receive school kits and trauma healing services, noting that the data collection process is currently ongoing.
“The Ministry of Primary and Disadvantaged Education, together with the Jakarta Education Office, is providing assistance to children affected by the fire disaster, not only at SDN Kebon Kosong 09 but also to all affected children. This is only the first site we have visited,” said Minister Mu’ti after symbolically presenting the aid at SDN Kebon Kosong 09 Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday morning.
To provide trauma healing services for the affected students, the Ministry has coordinated and collaborated with the Indonesian Psychological Association (Himpsi), which is currently conducting initial assessments to map out the psychosocial support and trauma healing required for the students.
In addition to the students, he added that Kemendikdasmen is also providing financial assistance of Rp10 million each to two teachers and one school guard affected by the fire in the area.
Regarding the affected students, he noted that they will have the opportunity to take make-up exams, as the end-of-semester examinations are currently underway.
“Regarding teaching and learning activities, the children can study as usual; some are currently undergoing end-of-semester tests. Those who, due to certain conditions, are unable to participate will be given the opportunity to take make-up tests by their respective schools,” said Mu’ti.
