Ministry of PPPA Confirms 27 Rape Victims Have Been Served by Sampang UPTD PPA
Deputy for Special Child Protection at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Titi Eko Rahayu, has confirmed that her office has coordinated with regional authorities to provide protection and services to the victim of a rape case involving 27 men against a 15-year-old girl in Sampang, East Java. “Our service unit, SAPA, has coordinated with the Sampang UPTD PPA to ensure the services provided meet the victim’s needs,” she told Media Indonesia on Sunday (12/7).
SAPA 129 (Friends of Women and Children) is the official complaints facility of the Ministry of PPPA for handling cases of violence against women and children. The service provides complaint reception, outreach, victim assistance, mediation, and referrals to safe houses.
On the same occasion, Titi stressed that the ministry urges the police to immediately arrest all perpetrators. According to circulating information, only 12 of the 27 suspects have been detained so far, while the remaining 15 are still being pursued.
Minister of PPPA Arifah Fauzi strongly condemned the case and emphasised the importance of early detection of violence, which can be achieved by recognising drastic behavioural changes and building safe, supportive communication. She also highlighted that strengthening the capacity of caregivers and providing alternative activities without gadgets are crucial to supporting optimal child development.
