Ministry of Population and Family Development Strengthens Family Role to Protect Children Online

The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga/BKKBN) is reinforcing the role of families as part of the implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2025 on Child Protection in the Online Sphere.

Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development Isyana Bagoes Oka explained that her ministry holds responsibility for the primary prevention strategy outlined in the regulation: tackling the misuse of information and communication technology against children online through socialisation and training on parenting approaches for families.

This aligns with the ministry’s long-standing focus on prevention through education, socialisation and community mobilisation, ultimately aiming to drive behavioural change within families. The ministry is optimising the role of Family Assistance Teams, family activity groups, Ambassadors for Planned Generation, Youth Information and Counselling Centres, and various development partners to expand educational outreach and mentoring for families across Indonesia.

Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifatul Choiri Fauzi stressed that child protection in the online sphere must be comprehensive, involving families, educational institutions and the community. She classified the foundation as lying within the family, where complete information on protecting children online is essential, followed by educational units from early childhood to university, and thirdly the community environment.

Through the coordination meeting, 15 involved ministries and agencies affirmed a joint commitment to strengthen the implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2025. The collaboration is expected to bolster child protection in the digital era by strengthening the roles of family, educational institutions and society as the main ecosystem for the development of Indonesian children.
