Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/BKKBN has introduced family planning (KB) services at the dr. Lie Dharmawan Hospital Ship in Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi Province.

Deputy Head of Kemendukbangga/BKKBN, Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that the geographical conditions of several regions in Indonesia pose challenges for the public in accessing healthcare services, including family planning. Therefore, providing family planning services via a hospital ship is one of the efforts to expand the reach of services for communities in special regions.

These family planning services on the hospital ship are being carried out to commemorate World Contraception Day and are part of a series of activities conducted simultaneously by Kemendukbangga/BKKBN from 7 September to 7 October 2026.

The service is aimed at increasing public participation in modern family planning while simultaneously reducing the unmet need for contraception, particularly in priority areas, to ensure that family planning services can reach communities facing limited access.

“This is one of the principles of the Sustainable Development Goals: no one left behind in family planning services,” said Isyana.

The effort to reach communities in special regions through this collaboration also received appreciation from the Deputy Governor of Central Sulawesi, Reny Arniwaty Lamadjido.

“I appreciate this integrated approach, because family health requires comprehensive attention. Efforts to improve family health require integrated services and support from various parties,” she said.

The presence of family planning services through the hospital ship is expected to become part of the strengthening of access to reproductive health and family planning services for communities in regions facing geographical challenges.
