Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/BKKBN is collaborating with the Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) to sign a memorandum of understanding on empowering the people’s economy through cooperatives, involving families.

The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Population and Family Development/Head of BKKBN Wihaji and the Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono on Monday (11/5) to synergise family development, population, and family planning programmes in supporting the development of the people’s economy through cooperatives.

“At Kemendukbangga/BKKBN, there is the UPPKA Group, namely the Family Income Enhancement Business for Acceptors (family planning participants). In the past, mothers who wanted to participate in family planning were provided with financing and business opportunities. This is still ongoing today, and it will become part of the synergy with the Ministry of Cooperatives, including the Red and White Village/Urban Village Cooperatives,” said Minister Wihaji in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Wihaji also appreciated the collaborative synergy with several ministries and institutions, which is a directive from President Prabowo Subianto. Therefore, tangible programme synergies on the ground are very necessary to ensure the success of these programmes.

“Regarding the national priority programme of Red and White Village/Urban Village Cooperatives, we feel it is necessary to involve other ministries and institutions so that the Red and White Village/Urban Village Cooperatives can provide the best possible benefits for village and urban communities,” said Ferry.

He gave an example of how groups mentored by Kemendukbangga/BKKBN can be optimised and transformed into cooperative business entities, or conversely, the Red and White Village/Urban Village Cooperatives can serve as outlets for products from groups mentored by Kemendukbangga/BKKBN.

As stated in the Memorandum of Understanding between Kemendukbangga/BKKBN and the Ministry of Cooperatives, the scope of cooperation includes the utilisation of data and information; implementation of advocacy and communication, information, and education in developing a people’s economy through family-based cooperatives; as well as the formation, strengthening, and development of cooperative institutions and businesses in supporting the people’s economic development in the fields of population and family development.

As a follow-up to the signing of the memorandum of understanding, in the future, a cooperation agreement will be established that regulates detailed tasks, work mechanisms, as well as the rights and obligations of Kemendukbangga/BKKBN and the Ministry of Cooperatives.
