The Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has revealed that modular houses can serve as a solution for providing quicker housing construction at still affordable prices, particularly for post-disaster needs. Director of Land Preparation and Public Infrastructure and Facilities of the Ministry of PKP, Indra Gunawan, in Tangerang, Banten, on Friday, emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and industry players, so that this concept can be implemented optimally without reducing building quality. “We, together with BNPB, welcome this concept to support the target of 5,000 post-disaster housing units in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. The hope is that the price can be kept around Rp100 million per unit, but still with quality suited to Indonesian conditions,” said Indra during the soft launching of the Modular Sample House to support the construction of subsidised houses as well as cheap, fast, and quality disaster recovery houses in Tangerang. This method allows the construction process to proceed far more quickly compared to conventional methods, even able to be completed in about three days (excluding foundation work). Deputy Mayor of Tangerang Maryono Hasan added that the modular house concept can be one solution in addressing the continuously growing housing needs of the community. “For the post-disaster house concept, I think this is already very good. Hopefully it can be implemented in Indonesia, especially in the City of Tangerang,” he said. He also opened the opportunity for applying the modular house concept as an alternative in regional housing programmes, especially if it suits the needs and budget capacity. “We see the sample house next to us, it could perhaps be applied to the municipal government’s house renovation programme, if the budget allows,” he stated.
