Ministry of PKP and West Jakarta City Government accelerate handling of 2,000 unfit-for-habitation homes

The home renovation programme is targeted to reach 400,000 units nationally within the 2026 budget year.

The Ministry of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP) is collaborating with the West Jakarta municipal government to accelerate the handling of 2,000 unfit-for-habitation homes (RTLH). The collaborative step was discussed in a coordination meeting led by West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah at the West Jakarta Mayor’s meeting room on Wednesday.

Director General of Urban Housing at the Ministry of PKP Sri Haryati said the Home Renovation Programme is one of the government’s priority agendas to ensure that low-income communities obtain decent and healthy housing. Sri said that within the DKI Jakarta provincial government area, the programme targets 10,300 homes, with an allocation of 2,000 units for West Jakarta.

According to her, home repairs not only improve housing quality but also support poverty alleviation efforts and public health improvement. Building improvements, including the replacement of hazardous materials such as asbestos, are expected to support the realisation of a healthy city and curb the spread of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis.

West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah said her administration is ready to oversee the implementation of the Home Renovation Programme to ensure it is properly targeted. Iin further explained that data integration will serve as the basis for determining beneficiaries, while aligning budget support between the central and regional governments. With this synergy, she said, homes not yet accommodated through Baznas funding can be proposed to receive support from the Ministry of PKP.

“This programme is expected to accelerate the improvement of slum areas and enhance the quality of life for West Jakarta residents,” Iin said.
