Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Prepares Fisheries Businesses to Access KUR

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is preparing businesses in the marine and fisheries sector to gain easier access to the People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme by improving financial literacy and business capacity.

Acting Director-General for Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products at the KKP, Erwin Dwiyana, said the effort is being carried out through the pilot project of the Gemilang programme (Generation Literate in Financial Inclusion and Literacy), which targets micro, small and medium enterprises (UMKM) as well as managers of Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperatives (KDKMP).

“With increasingly competent human resources, the implementation of the National Priority Work Programme can run more effectively and bring sustainable economic benefits to the community,” Erwin said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday.

The programme is being attended by 30 participants, comprising 18 UMKM operators and 12 managers of Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperatives. The Gemilang programme’s socialisation took place on Wednesday (1/7).

Director of Business Empowerment at the KKP, Ali Rahmat Iman Santoso, said strengthening business capacity has become important because the use of formal financing in the marine and fisheries sector remains relatively low.

According to the Ministry of Finance’s Programme Credit Information System, KUR disbursement to the marine and fisheries sector had reached only about 1.5 per cent of total national KUR disbursement as of the first quarter of 2026.

According to Ali, this situation shows there is still room to widen access to financing for businesses in the marine and fisheries sector.
