Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries: 15.6 hectares of aquaculture ponds in Padang Pariaman to recover by September
The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has stated that the recovery of 15.6 hectares of damaged aquaculture ponds in Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, following hydrometeorological disasters at the end of 2025, is expected to be completed and operational by the end of September 2026.
“We hope they can resume operations as soon as possible, at least by the end of September, so that the community can return to work and reap economic benefits,” said KKP Secretary General Andy Artha Donny Oktopura during a visit to Padang Pariaman on Saturday.
He noted that the local government has been constructing and repairing pond irrigation facilities. The central government has also provided mini heavy machinery to accelerate the rehabilitation of severely damaged channels and ponds. This machinery will be managed by the local government to support the development of aquaculture production centres in the region.
“This can align with our collective efforts to achieve protein self-sufficiency,” he added.
In addition to heavy machinery, the Ministry is providing fish seeds, feed, fishing boat engines, and cooling facilities as stimuli to encourage aquaculture practitioners to resume operations.
Previously, the Padang Pariaman Regency Government received one excavator unit from the central government to accelerate the recovery of fisheries infrastructure impacted by floods and landslides in late 2025.
“This assistance is very significant for the community, particularly for fishery entrepreneurs affected by the disaster,” said the Regent of Padang Pariaman, John Kenedy Azis.
He stated that the excavator is being utilised to repair land, irrigation networks, and production roads that support the activities of fishery businesses in the area. He added that with the repaired infrastructure, the economic activities of the community, specifically in the fisheries sector, can return to optimal levels following the disaster.
