Ministry of Manpower: Improving Human Resource Quality is Crucial to Facing Technological Disruption

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Manpower, Cris Kuntadi, stated that increasing the capacity and quality of young human resources is essential to facing digital technological disruption, including artificial intelligence (AI), across various industrial sectors.

“At the Ministry of Manpower, we view digital disruption as an inevitability that must be met with competency readiness,” Cris said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. He noted that the development of digital technology and AI has changed how society accesses information and has simultaneously altered the required competencies in the workforce.

“Therefore, the improvement of human resource capacity must be carried out continuously so that the new workforce is able to adapt and remain competitive,” he added.

Furthermore, he stated that collaboration between the government and various relevant stakeholders is vital in the effort to improve the quality of young workers. The Ministry of Manpower has recently established a partnership with the Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI) to enhance the capacity of young human resources, specifically campus journalists, in facing digital transformation and the development of AI technology.

This collaboration is also aimed at strengthening labour-related publications and public education. Cris noted that for the Ministry of Manpower, the mass media plays a strategic role in disseminating accurate, educational, and easily understandable labour information to the public.

He added that the cooperation with IJTI is intended not only to strengthen labour literacy but also to support the competency enhancement of the younger generation, enabling them to adapt to technological developments and the ever-changing needs of the professional world.

“The main focus of this collaboration is to prepare the younger generation, particularly campus journalists, to possess competencies relevant to technological advancements, including the use of AI. At the same time, we want to strengthen labour education through informative publications that are easily understood by the public,” Cris concluded.
