Ministry of Manpower Expands Technical Internship Placement Opportunities to Miyazaki, Japan
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) is expanding opportunities for placing Indonesian technical interns in Miyazaki, Japan, through cooperation with the Miyazaki Prefectural Government.
Kemnaker Secretary General Cris Kuntadi, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, said that this cooperation represents a strategic step in strengthening Indonesia-Japan relations in the field of employment, particularly in improving competencies and expanding placement opportunities for technical internship participants.
“We express our appreciation to the Miyazaki Prefectural Government for its commitment to expanding this cooperation, especially in human resource development (HRD) and increasing opportunities for placing Indonesian technical interns,” Cris stated.
He further explained that the scope of the cooperation includes training, dispatch, and acceptance of Indonesian technical internship participants in Miyazaki Prefecture.
In addition, both parties will strengthen periodic data and information exchange to support the programme’s sustainability.
Kemnaker, Cris continued, is also preparing a system for sharing information to support career development for participants after completing their internship programme in Japan.
This step is taken in line with the increasing need for labour in Japan, including in Miyazaki Prefecture, which is facing a declining population.
Cris added that one of the main focuses of this cooperation is the implementation of job matching to ensure alignment between the competencies of prospective participants and the needs of partner industries in Japan.
In addition, Kemnaker is preparing pre-placement training through government and private training centres spread across various regions in Indonesia.
Based on Kemnaker data, the placement of Indonesian technical internship participants to Japan in 2025 reached 19,332 people.
Meanwhile, up to May 2026, the number of participants dispatched was recorded at 18,316 people, indicating a consistently high placement achievement in the early period of the current year.
Specifically in Miyazaki Prefecture, the number of Indonesian internship participants has also increased from 243 people in 2025 to 285 people in 2026.
On the other hand, Miyazaki Prefecture Governor Shunji Kono welcomed the cooperation. He emphasised that Miyazaki Prefecture is currently facing the challenge of depopulation, thus requiring foreign interns to support various industrial sectors.
“The presence of Indonesian citizens has made a significant contribution to the agricultural sector in Miyazaki Prefecture. We see opportunities for Indonesian interns to contribute in more sectors in the future,” he said.
