Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas officially launched the Indonesian Geographical Indication Product Showcase on the Tokopedia and TikTok Shop applications on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at Graha Pengayoman, Jakarta. The showcase, a collaboration between the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) and the two e-commerce platforms, represents an effort to broaden the marketing of Geographical Indication products while simultaneously increasing their economic value through digital platforms. This showcase is the first national promotional space specifically designed to collect and market authentic Indonesian Geographical Indication products on a single digital platform. Through this showcase, the public can not only obtain authentic GI products but also access information regarding their origin, characteristics, reputation, and the legal protection guarantees they have secured.

Director General of Intellectual Property Hermansyah Siregar stated that the launch of the showcase is a manifestation of DJKI’s service transformation, which does not stop at granting legal protection. He emphasised that this protection must drive economic benefits, providing real advantages to communities in the products’ regions of origin. ‘The launch of the Indonesian Geographical Indication Product Showcase is proof that intellectual property protection does not end with the issuance of a certificate. The state’s duty is to ensure that this protection delivers tangible economic benefits to the community through expanded market access and enhanced competitiveness of regional superior products,’ Hermansyah said. He added that this strategic step builds an ecosystem connecting legal protection with digital marketing, aiming to make GI products more widely recognised, trusted, and competitive in both national and global markets.

To date, Indonesia has registered 271 GI products, comprising 255 domestic products and 16 from abroad. This achievement makes Indonesia the country with the highest number of registered GI products in the ASEAN region, demonstrating the significant potential of regional superior products for further development. Director of Trademarks and Geographical Indications Fajar Sulaeman Taman explained that the launch follows through on DJKI’s commitment to expanding market access for GI rights holders. Prior to the launch, DJKI facilitated assistance for GI owners to open shops and upload their products to Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, enabling them to join the showcase. Fajar noted that the public can visit the digital showcase through the ‘Beli Lokal’ menu on Tokopedia and TikTok Shop to find authentic GI products. The initiative is expected to strengthen the branding of regional superior products while increasing added value for farmers, fishers, artisans, business actors, and local communities in the products’ areas of origin.
