Ministry of Law Hands Over 6.3 Hectares of Land to Social Affairs Ministry for 'Sekolah Rakyat' Construction

The Ministry of Law has handed over 6.3 hectares of land in the Tangerang area to the Ministry of Social Affairs for the construction of a ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School). The certificate handover took place at the Ministry of Law building in Kuningan, South Jakarta, on Thursday (18/6/2026). Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas stated that the transfer represents inter-ministerial collaboration to support the government’s programme. “We are handing over today 62, almost 63 thousand (square metres) or 6.3 hectares of land belonging to the Ministry of Law to the Ministry of Social Affairs, designated for the construction of a Sekolah Rakyat,” Supratman said during the certificate handover. The Minister recounted feeling moved when attending the inauguration of a Sekolah Rakyat and expressed hope that the asset could be developed swiftly. “Hopefully this land we are handing over today can truly be utilised as soon as possible, built upon, and the Sekolah Rakyat can become operational,” he said. On the same occasion, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, stated that the handover was purely an initiative from the Ministry of Law, with communication regarding the transfer having begun a year ago. “Before we even asked, he had already conveyed that he had land in Tangerang to be handed over for the construction of a Sekolah Rakyat building. That was early on, about a year ago he mentioned it,” Gus Ipul said. He noted that the contribution is greatly needed for building Sekolah Rakyat, praising the initiative as these schools are intended for underprivileged communities. “This is truly meaningful, not just for Sekolah Rakyat, because we still need land for construction. As is known, land is usually provided by regents, mayors, or governors,” he explained.
