JAKARTA — The Ministry of Labour of the Republic of Indonesia has recorded 102,696 participants enrolled in the National Apprenticeship Programme.

This was disclosed by the Head of the Ministry of Labour’s Planning Board, Anwar Sanusi, following his attendance at a “National Seminar on the National Apprenticeship Programme” organised by the Indonesian Policy Analysts Association (AAKI) and Deloitte Indonesia at The Plaza Office Tower in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Friday (13 March 2026).

“We already have 102,000 apprenticeship participants in the national apprenticeship programme. So since we first opened it in October 2025, the enthusiasm has been very high,” Anwar stated at the location on Friday.

Consequently, the number of participants currently actively participating in the national apprenticeship programme stands at 90,131 people.

“However, during the process, more than 11,000 of them withdrew for various reasons,” Anwar explained.

According to Anwar, the high participation rate is driven by enthusiasm from both participating companies and apprentice participants themselves.

He explained that one factor driving company interest is support from participants coming from higher education institutions. The participants are deemed to possess high levels of ideas and creativity.

On the other hand, participants also benefit from the programme as they have the opportunity to be recruited as permanent employees if they demonstrate good performance during their apprenticeship.

Although not holding permanent employee status, National Apprenticeship Programme participants still receive various benefits. The programme, which has been running for approximately five months, provides apprenticeship participation certificates that can add value when applying for jobs.

Additionally, participants also receive protection in the form of BPJS employment insurance coverage from the government as well as living allowances.

“Reasons include being accepted into full-time positions, family considerations, lack of alignment with the role and other factors,” he added.

Nevertheless, Anwar could not yet confirm when the National Apprenticeship Programme will reopen. Currently, the continuation of the programme awaits a decision from the central government.
