Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is strengthening the standardisation of the building material industry to support the government’s national roofing initiative, while also improving the competitiveness of the domestic roofing and ceramic industries.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita believes that the roofing initiative presents a strategic opportunity for the national roofing and ceramic industries to increase production capacity, expand investment, and strengthen competitiveness through the implementation of standardisation and the utilisation of industrial technology.

“This roofing initiative is an important momentum for the national roofing and ceramic industries to increase productivity and competitiveness, while also strengthening the structure of the domestic building material industry,” said the Minister in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Industry fully supports the roofing initiative launched by President Prabowo Subianto as part of efforts to improve the quality of housing for the community, improve the aesthetics of residential areas, and encourage the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable building materials.

The roofing initiative was introduced as part of the Indonesian Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful Movement (ASRI), and is expected to encourage the involvement of national industries, thereby having a real impact on economic growth and community welfare.

The Head of the Agency for Standardisation and Industrial Service Policy (BSKJI), Emmy Suryandari, affirmed that strengthening the building material industry through the roofing initiative needs to be supported by the implementation of consistent standardisation and the strengthening of technical services in all BSKJI units.

“BSKJI encourages that this roofing initiative not only focus on increasing production volume, but also on meeting quality standards, process efficiency, and sustainability aspects. Standardisation and industrial service become important instruments to ensure that national roofing products have guaranteed quality and are able to compete in the domestic and global markets,” said Emmy.

To support the implementation of this policy, the Centre for Standardisation and Industrial Service for Ceramics and Non-Metallic Minerals (BBSPJIKMN) expressed its readiness to play an active role through consulting services and the optimisation of industrial technology for businesses in the roofing and building material sectors.

The Head of BBSPJIKMN, Azhar Fitri, said that the agency functions as a technical partner for industry and the government in bridging national policies with technical implementation in the field.

“Through consulting services and the optimisation of industrial technology, BBSPJIKMN supports the implementation of the national roofing movement in a technical, measurable, and sustainable manner, while also strengthening the competitiveness of the national industry,” he explained.

As concrete support, BBSPJIKMN provides various strategic services, including technical assistance in the implementation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for roofing products, optimisation of production processes to increase energy efficiency and productivity, assistance in the development and expansion of industrial capacity through technical feasibility studies and factory layout design, to assistance in meeting industrial, environmental, and occupational safety regulations.

Through synergy between government policies, industry players, and technical agencies, the Ministry of Industry is optimistic that the national roofing movement will not only improve the quality of housing for the community, but also become a strategic momentum to strengthen the structure of the national ceramic and non-metallic mineral industry.
