Ministry of Industry promotes non-plastic packaging as solution for food and beverage industry
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is promoting the use of non-plastic packaging as a strategic solution for the food and beverage (mamin) industry, aiming to improve efficiency while strengthening the sector’s competitiveness amid dynamic challenges. Industry Minister (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated in Jakarta on Friday that his ministry is beginning to encourage the adoption of non-plastic packaging, particularly paper or paperboard-based options. This type of packaging is considered sufficiently competitive, with a significant share of around 28 percent of the total food and beverage industry packaging. Furthermore, one of the strategic steps supported by Kemenperin is the utilisation of aseptic paper-based packaging as an alternative to conventional packaging and to replace plastic use. Acting Director General of Agro Industry at Kemenperin, Putu Juli Ardika, added that the use of aseptic paper-based packaging aligns with the government’s policy direction in promoting more environmentally friendly industrial practices. This commitment and support were demonstrated through a workshop and visit held at PT Lami Packaging Indonesia with food and beverage industry players who are members of the Indonesian Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs Association (GAPMMI) some time ago. GAPMMI General Chairman Adhi S. Lukman stated that the workshop is necessary to find alternative solutions so that the food and beverage industry can continue to develop.
