Ministry of Industry Prepares Adaptive Workforce to Spur Economic Growth
The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is continuing to prepare an industrial workforce that is adaptive to technological developments to strengthen the competitiveness of national industry and spur economic growth.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasised that the availability of a competent and adaptable workforce is a crucial factor in supporting the growth of national industry.
“A competent workforce is the key to national industrial growth. The government continues to prepare human resources that are adaptive to technological developments so they can compete globally,” the Minister said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Minister further stated that one of the efforts being undertaken is strengthening competency infrastructure by organising Competency Assessor Training. This programme is aimed at expanding the availability of competency assessors across various industrial sectors while ensuring the certification process runs according to the standards required by the business world.
Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) at the Ministry of Industry, Doddy Rahadi, said that strengthening industrial human resources must be supported by adequate competency infrastructure so that the certification process can run effectively and in accordance with industry needs.
“The Ministry of Industry, particularly BPSDMI, consistently prepares competency infrastructure development programmes needed by the industrial sector. Strong competency infrastructure includes the availability of Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI), Professional Certification Bodies (LSP), competency assessors, and Competency Test Centres (TUK),” Doddy explained.
In addition to producing new assessors, the activity held in Jakarta from 21 to 24 June also serves as a means of improving competency for assessors whose certification validity periods need to be renewed.
Head of the Centre for Industrial HR Education and Training at the Ministry of Industry, Ronggolawe Sahuri, explained that competency assessors have a strategic role in maintaining the quality of the professional certification system in Indonesia. Competency assessors are responsible for carrying out the competency testing process for workers (assessees) to determine their eligibility to obtain a competency certificate issued by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).
This certificate serves as official recognition of a worker’s competence while providing added value in enhancing competitiveness, opening wider career opportunities, and supporting the improvement of workers’ welfare.
