The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is strengthening industrial vocational education as a response to the increasing need for digital talent in the Industry 4.0 era. This step is aimed at preparing human resources (HR) that are adaptive, competent, and able to compete at a global level.

The Head of the Agency for the Development of Industrial Human Resources (BPSDMI) of Kemenperin, Doddy Rahadi, stated that industrial transformation has changed workforce needs, particularly those with technology- and digital-based competencies.

He explained that this condition is driving Kemenperin to continue expanding cross-country strategic collaborations, especially in the development of industrial HR. “This is what is spurring Kemenperin to continue carrying out cross-country strategic collaborations, especially in the development of HR and the placement of workers in the Industry 4.0 field,” Doddy said in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

According to him, strengthening vocational education is an important part of the grand strategy for national industrial transformation. Through this step, the manufacturing sector is expected to be able to adapt to technological developments while entering the global supply chain.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasised that digitalisation is a key factor in increasing national industrial productivity and innovation. He assessed that the implementation of Industry 4.0 will strengthen Indonesia’s manufacturing competitiveness on the global stage.

“Digitalisation and the implementation of Industry 4.0 are key to realising a smart, sustainable, and resilient manufacturing sector in facing global competition,” Agus said.

As an implementation, Kemenperin through BPSDMI is expanding international cooperation with several partners, including Irootech Technology Co. Ltd. and the Machinery Industry Education Development Center (MIEDC) from China. This collaboration is focused on the development of industrial digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI).

This cooperation was strengthened through visits to various vocational education institutions and industrial companies in China, such as Irootech, Sany Group, Wuhan Vocational College of Software and Engineering, Guangzhou Polytechnic, to MIEDC.

In the series of activities, the International Cooperation Alliance for the Development of Industrial Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence Talent was launched. This alliance serves as a forum for collaboration between the industrial sector, education, and government from Indonesia and China.

The Head of the Centre for the Development of Industrial Vocational Education (PPPVI) of Kemenperin, Wulan Aprilianti Permatasari, explained that this alliance is designed to strengthen the integration between the world of education and industry while encouraging global talent exchanges.

“Currently, alliance members come from educational institutions and industries in Indonesia and China. In the future, it is hoped that more parties will be actively involved,” Wulan said.

From the industry side, Vice President of Irootech Technology Co. Ltd., Ye Fei, assessed that this cooperation opens opportunities for accelerating the development of industrial digital talent. He also encouraged the holding of vocational skills competitions and global talent exchanges.

“We also hope to explore vocational skills competitions and talent exchanges for the WorldSkills Competition in the digital industry field,” Ye Fei said.

This cooperation is a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding between PPPVI Kemenperin and Irootech, which was signed on 16 September 2025. The agreement covers the development, training, to placement of workers in the field of industrial digitalisation and artificial intelligence.

In addition, BPSDMI is also running various supporting programmes such as training, seminars, and industrial visits to increase students’ work readiness so they can be directly absorbed into the industrial world.

Currently, BPSDMI oversees 13 vocational universities and nine vocational high schools. Kemenperin is also opening registrations for the JARVIS Bersama 2026 programme for prospective students and university students who want to join the national industrial ecosystem.
