Ministry of Industry emphasises green industry to boost added value and competitiveness
The government continues to encourage industrial players to apply resource efficiency and environmentally friendly production principles consistently as the foundation for strengthening the national industrial structure.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) emphasises the importance of adopting the concept of a green industry as a strategy to increase added value while also strengthening the competitiveness of the national industry.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, asserted that the adoption of a green industry forms an important part of the national industrial development strategy.
“The government continues to encourage industrial players to apply principles of resource efficiency and environmentally friendly production consistently as the foundation for strengthening the national industrial structure,” he said.
Furthermore, he noted that the transformation toward more efficient and environmentally friendly production processes is seen as the key for Indonesia’s manufacturing sector to compete in both domestic and global markets.
One of the acceleration efforts for a green industry is being pursued by the ministry through the Balai Standardisation dan Pelayanan Jasa Industri (BSPJI) Padang, which provides certification and standardisation services for industrial players.
The facility is expected to help industries improve production efficiency, strengthen competitiveness, and increase environmental awareness.
BSPJI Padang is an Implementing Unit under the Badan Standardisation dan Kebijakan Jasa Industri (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry, which provides standardisation and certification services to industrial players.
The services are directed to support the implementation of the green industry concept, emphasising the efficient and sustainable use of energy, water, and raw materials, as well as reducing the environmental impact of production processes.
According to Agus, the implementation of a green industry is not only about environmental protection but also provides economic benefits for industries.
“Through applying these principles, companies can cut production costs, increase productivity, and strengthen the position of their products in both domestic and global markets. In addition, the public also benefits from improved environmental quality and sustainable economic growth,” he said.
In support of the government’s policy to strengthen a sustainable industry, BSPJI Padang provides Green Industry Certification for companies that meet the established standards and criteria.
The scope of Green Industry Certification served by BSPJI Padang includes the Portland cement industry, the solid NPK fertilizer industry, the mineral water industry, the crumb rubber industry, and the palm oil cooking oil industry, conducted in accordance with the Green Industry Standards for each sector.
Head of BSKJI Emmy Suryandari said that standardisation and conformity assessment play an important role in ensuring that the green industry implementation is measured and accountable.
According to her, standardisation provides certainty that the green industry implementation is carried out in accordance with applicable standards so that its benefits can be felt optimally by both industry and society.
Meanwhile, Head of BSPJI Padang Dindin Syafruddin emphasised the readiness of the agency to provide services and guidance to industrial players in applying the green industry concept.
This effort is expected to encourage the industry to grow more efficiently, competitively, while remaining mindful of environmental sustainability.
