Ministry of Industry and UNIDO Launch Eco-Industrial Park Center to Accelerate Green Transformation
Industrial estates are no longer judged solely on infrastructure completeness or investment ease. The global business community increasingly demands estates that are energy-efficient, low-emission, capable of sustainable waste management and committed to circular economy principles. In response, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has inaugurated the Eco-Industrial Park Center (EIP Center) at the Indonesia Digital Industry Centre (PIDI) 4.0 building in Jakarta, as the hub for green industrial estate transformation in Indonesia.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said the establishment of the EIP Center is a priority programme under the implementation of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme II (GEIPP II) Indonesia, a collaboration between Kemenperin and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), supported by the Swiss Government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
“We express our appreciation to the Swiss Government through SECO and UNIDO for their support in establishing the EIP Center, which we hope will become a centre of excellence to facilitate the transformation of industrial estates towards Green Industrial Estates,” the Minister said in a statement in Jakarta (28/7).
The government is also strengthening industrial estate regulations so that the transition towards green industrial estates can proceed more quickly and in a targeted manner. One measure being prepared is a requirement for every industrial estate to draw up a roadmap for transformation towards Green Industrial Estate status. Estates that successfully meet the standards will receive various fiscal facilities and special incentives as a means of accelerating the green industrial transformation in Indonesia.
The EIP Center will serve as an advisory hub for estate managers in drawing up transformation roadmaps, providing technical consultation and training, and developing pilot green industrial estate projects. The centre will also strengthen the application of industrial decarbonisation, circular economy practices, industrial symbiosis and various sustainable industrial development practices.
To support its operations, Kemenperin has formed an EIP Center Technical Team involving Kemenperin, the UNIDO Representative for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, and the Indonesian Industrial Estates Association (HKI). The team will carry out various strategic programmes, ranging from consultancy services, training and transformation roadmap preparation, to identifying pilot industrial estates and strengthening policy and collaboration among stakeholders.
