Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is accelerating the fulfilment of halal certification for the consumer goods industry ahead of the mandatory enforcement on 18 October 2026, through strengthening the halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream to ensure the readiness of the national industry. Facing the enforcement of this obligation, which covers pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, and consumer goods, Kemenperin is promoting the acceleration of the implementation of various strategic programmes, including the development of the halal industry in accordance with the Roadmap for Halal Industry Development Phase II 2025–2029. Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, emphasised that halal certification is intended to seize the great opportunity for Indonesia to become a major player in the global halal industry. “It is time for Indonesia to become the world’s centre for the halal industry, not just as a market for foreign products. The performance of halal product exports, including the modest fashion sector, shows tremendous potential, with achievements reaching US$8.28 billion in 2024,” said the Minister. In an effort to increase understanding among industry players, the Textile Industry Standardisation and Service Centre (BBSPJI) of Kemenperin held the TEXTalk event, attended by more than 180 participants from various stakeholders. This event serves as a medium for disseminating the implementation of halal certification, particularly for the textile and textile products (TPT) sector. Halal certification for consumer goods is mandated by Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, along with its derivative regulations set by the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH). These provisions cover various products such as clothing, accessories, household appliances, medical devices, and their components, especially those containing animal elements.
