Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is strengthening the national essential oil downstream industry through the development of the Flavor and Fragrance Centre (PFF) as a hub for innovation, training, and business incubation of products.

In a statement in Jakarta on Sunday, Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasised that Indonesia has significant potential in developing the flavour, fragrance, and wellness industries based on natural ingredients, supported by its rich biodiversity and abundant availability of essential oil commodities.

“The development of the PFF in Bali is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the national essential oil downstream industry so that it is not exported in raw form, but processed into high-value-added products such as perfumes, aromatherapy, spa products, cosmetics, and household products based on natural ingredients,” he said.

According to the Minister, the PFF located in Bali has a very large market opportunity for the development of the downstream essential oil industry because it is supported by high tourism activity as well as the growing spa and wellness industries.

Acting Director General of Agro Industry Putu Juli Ardika stated that the development of the PFF is directed towards strengthening the national flavour and fragrance industry ecosystem through improving the competence of human resources (HR), product innovation development, and strengthening industry networks.

“The Bali PFF will not only become a training centre, but is also expected to be able to act as a catalyst for the development of the national flavour and fragrance industry based on essential oils. Through this facility, we are striving for the birth of innovative products that have competitiveness in the domestic and global markets,” said Putu.

Since its development, the PFF has carried out various capacity-building and training activities based on essential oils.
