Jakarta – The Ministry of Immigration and Penal Affairs (Kemenimipas) has dispatched 661 participants in its coordinated mudik programme in its second year of operation, an initiative designed to support government efforts to ease congestion during Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026.

“This is the second year of implementation,” said Minister of Immigration and Penal Affairs Agus Andrianto in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday. “This is our effort to provide facilities to our extended family to help reduce travel costs and simultaneously support the government’s programme to ease traffic congestion.”

In the second year of Kemenimipas’s coordinated mudik programme, 17 buses have been allocated across six travel routes. The largest destinations include Surabaya (5 buses), Yogyakarta (4 buses), and Surakarta and Semarang (3 buses each). Routes to Sumatra destinations include Lampung (1 bus) and Palembang (1 bus).

A total of 803 participants registered for the Kemenimipas mudik programme, though only 661 were verified to participate, comprising civil servants, families, cadets, permanent contract workers, non-permanent contract workers, and interns.

The annual Kemenimipas tradition aims to provide safe and comfortable travel facilities for employees and families whilst supporting government efforts to reduce congestion during the mudik season.

Minister Agus emphasised the importance of safety during the journey. He particularly reminded participants to prioritise road safety when using two-wheeled vehicles during their stay in their hometowns.

“I urge drivers to be careful and avoid rushing,” said Agus, a former Deputy National Police Chief. “Eid is still far away – there are still two more weeks – so take it slowly and prioritise safety. And don’t forget to wear helmets when riding motorcycles. Please ensure safety.”

Secretary General of Immigration and Penal Affairs Asep Kurnia added that the programme’s implementation was supported by strategic partners contributing buses, including Bank Rakyat Indonesia, the State Electricity Company (PLN), Solusi Bangun Indonesia, and ParagonCorp.

The Coordinated Mudik programme forms part of Kemenimipas’s broader Ramadan activities, including Ramadan community outreach, social assistance distribution, breaking-of-fast provisions, and collection of zakat and voluntary donations for the community and families of those under state care.
