Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) has taken firm action regarding the viral news of a corruption convict with the initial S who was caught stopping by a coffee shop in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, after attending a Case Review (PK) hearing.

Deputy Head of the Cooperation Sub-Directorate of the Directorate General of Corrections at Kemenimipas, Rika Aprianti, confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday that Minister of Imipas Agus Andrianto has ordered a comprehensive examination of all parties involved in the incident.

“In line with the Minister’s directive, an examination will be conducted starting from the prison head, the prison security head, to the officers escorting the individual in the mentioned incident,” said Rika.

She stated that the examination related to the incident is still ongoing, carried out by a joint team from the Internal Compliance Operational Unit (Sat Ops Patnal) of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas).

If violations are proven, she said, they will be addressed in accordance with applicable regulations, up to the dismissal of positions and the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Office of Ditjenpas.

The examination is being conducted on all related parties, both the inmates and the detention centre staff.

According to her, if violations are proven or the extent of the violations committed by the mentioned inmate and the officers is determined, sanctions and punishments will be imposed in accordance with applicable regulations.

“And if violations are proven, they will be addressed according to applicable regulations, up to dismissal from positions,” she stated.

Rika also expressed appreciation to the public for participating in overseeing the performance of Kemenimipas personnel, which led to the discovery of the viral incident of the inmate stopping by the coffee shop.

“Thank you to the public who have helped with social control; we request continued support for us in carrying out guidance while enforcing rules as an important part of implementing the correction of inmates,” said Rika.

Previously, on Tuesday (14/4), it went viral on social media that an inmate in a mining case from North Kolaka (Kolut), Southeast Sulawesi, with the initial S, was caught stopping by a coffee shop after attending a PK hearing.

S’s arrival at the coffee shop was also escorted by local detention centre (Rutan) security officers.

The Southeast Sulawesi Regional Office (Kanwil) of the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) has taken firm action against the inmate in this case.

Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Ditjenpas Regional Office, Sulardi, when contacted in Kendari on Tuesday night, said that after receiving the report regarding the inmate going to the coffee shop, his office immediately deployed the Internal Compliance Operational Unit (Satops Patnal) of Ditjenpas Southeast Sulawesi to investigate the case.

“We immediately examined the officers escorting the inmate and prepared a Examination Report (BAP) together with the Patnal of Kendari Detention Centre,” said Sulardi.

He mentioned that the BAP results found violations committed by the officers escorting the inmate. Therefore, his office decided to impose disciplinary sanctions on those officers.

“Because, after the hearing, the inmate was invited for coffee by his former subordinate (Syahbandar). However, the officers did not prohibit it, so they proceeded to the coffee shop,” he explained.

Sulardi stated that in addition to disciplinary sanctions, his office also recalled the officer to the Southeast Sulawesi Ditjenpas Regional Office, where he previously served at the Class II A Kendari Detention Centre (Rutan).

S is a convict in a corruption case sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of Rp600 million. He is detained at the Class IIA Kendari Detention Centre.
