Ministry of Immigration and Corrections Inaugurates 13 New Immigration Officials, Including Replacements for Those Caught in KPK Sting

The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) has inaugurated 13 new high-ranking officials within the Directorate General of Immigration. The appointments fill vacancies, including those left by officials from West Jakarta and West Java who were caught in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko stated that the inauguration was also to replace officials who had retired. “Yes, there are two vacancies related to the KPK operation, and also some due to retirement. So we are carrying out a periodic refresh,” Hendarsam said after the ceremony in South Jakarta on Sunday.

He expressed hope that the new officials would perform their duties well and help restore public trust. “Hopefully all the inaugurated officials will be trustworthy and able to respond to challenges and regain public confidence,” he added.

The KPK had previously conducted a sting operation targeting immigration officials in West Jakarta and West Java. The case relates to limited stay permits for foreign nationals. The KPK has also named former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections Silmy Karim as a suspect in the case, bringing the total number of suspects to eight.
